Stephen F. Austin was more experienced

Anyone that watches NCAA basketball knows that experience goes a long way. This is especially true with regards to upsets. It was clear right from the tip that Stephen F. Austin was more experienced.

Senior Kevon Harris, the man that dealt most of SFA’s offensive damage in the first half, was the most experienced player on the floor. He has an extremely sharp basketball mind, and it was clear that he was ready for the task at hand. After all, he has played in 100+ games in a Stephen F. Austin uniform. He even played a huge role in the 2017-18 squad that competed in the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to Harris, Nathan Bain and John Comeaux are also seniors. Outside of these 3, the majority of the rest of SFA’s contributors are juniors. This roster of upperclassmen provided them with a great advantage on Tuesday night.

Duke’s starting lineup consisted of four Freshmen and a Sophomore. Matthew Hurt, Wendell Moore Jr., Vernon Carey Jr., Cassius Stanley, and Tre Jones had the talent advantage, but SFA’s more battle-tested lineup wanted it more. They used this experience to outcompete this young Duke squad that still has plenty to learn.
