Big Ten Basketball: What each team is thankful for so far in 2019-20
By Ryan Kay
Indiana – Undefeated at 6-0
Is it true that the Hoosiers played all of their games at home against lesser known opponents? Yes it is but it doesn’t neglect the fact that they are undefeated at 6-0. Indiana has defeated every opponent that they have faced by double digits and have scored 91 or more points in three games this season. The Hoosiers are talented and looking to surprise many college basketball experts and fans this holiday season.
Michigan State – Ranked No. 1 in the country according to Pomeroy
The Spartans may have lost two games but they have played the most difficult schedule in the country thus far and have defeated Georgia and UCLA on a neutral court and defeated a very good Seton Hall team on the road. The Ken Pom ranking system is very well-respected and admired. Many fans look to the AP or Coaches Poll for collegiate basketball rankings but college basketball experts far and wide look to the Ken Pom rankings more often than not when evaluating the true rankings of college basketball teams.
Northwestern – Winning games as Underdogs
Yes, it is true that the Wildcats lost at home to Radford and Merrimack by double digits. However, they also shocked many by defeating Providence as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games and beating Bradley in Fort Myers TipOff tournament by 27 points to reach the finals of the tournament.
Northwestern is improving and that is something that Wildcats should be thankful for. If their fan base can forgive them for early season upsets, Northwestern may surprise many by winning games as underdogs in the near future.
