Michigan Basketball: Takeaways from Wolverines 2019 Battle 4 Atlantis run
By Adam Childs
Michigan Basketball came away from their trip to the Bahamas with a surprise championship. What did we learn from the Wolverines in their three games over Thanksgiving?
Juwan Howard and the Michigan Basketball team went to the Bahamas looking to prove they belonged. They were unranked and still had lots of question marks. They were undefeated but the only team they had beat that was any good was Creighton and they use their size to beat them.
Would the Wolverines be able to respond to playing top ten teams and three games in three days., In a field loaded with four teams in the top 13 of the AP Poll, the Wolverines not only looked the part they looked like the best team by far.
They took care of a good Iowa State team despite Tyrese Haliburton scoring a career-high 25 points. They used a 19-0 second-half run to blow out North Carolina in a game that the final score looked closer than it really was. Then they finished it all off by beating Gonzaga by 18 points as they used another big second-half run to put the game away.
The reward for winning the Battle 4 Atlantis? The Wolverines get to travel to Louisville on Tuesday night in a game that is part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. That game now looks like it could be the best game on the schedule.
It has been the second year in a row that Michigan had its doubters and its the second year in a row that they have proven them all wrong in the early part of the season. If they can beat the Cardinals on Tuesday night, they will easily have the best resume of any team in the country if they don’t already.
So what did we learn about the Wolverines during their trip to the Bahamas? We take a look at the three biggest takeaways right here.
