NCAA Basketball’s Feast Week really shook up the national top-25 power rankings thanks to several unranked teams making moves. Where did everyone land?
Feast Week = wow. Non-conference tournaments took center stage across NCAA basketball during this past week and the only appropriate response is to simply say “wow”. With so many high-profile matchups every single day, Feast Week lived up to its billing as the most entertaining regular-season college basketball week of the year.
Due to the sheer number of top-25 matchups, several teams proved themselves worthy of being ranked while others showed their true colors as overrated squads. As a result, there were a ton of shifts in the national power rankings from top-to-bottom. With Duke (last week’s No. 1) dropping a home game in dramatic fashion to Stephen F. Austin, there is a new top team in the rankings this week…again.
But who will it be? Louisville has a great argument due to its superb roster/coaching but their strength of schedule has been quite weak. Additionally, Virginia remains undefeated and in the hunt while a trio of Big Ten teams (Ohio State, Michigan, and Maryland) can make legitimate claims as well.
In addition to just naming a new No. 1 team, this week’s rankings also feature several newcomers at the back-end as well. Feast Week provided just as many opportunities to launch into the rankings as it did to drop out. Perhaps the most notable examples of these are Texas Tech, who plummeted out of the rankings with back-to-back losses, and Michigan, who soared into the list following its Battle 4 Atlantis Championship.
Without any further ado, though, let’s just dive into the Week 5 top-25 national power rankings.
