Colorado Basketball: 2019-20 keys for Buffaloes to beat Kansas
3. Colorado must shoot the three-pointer as they did early in the season
The final key for Colorado involves their offense. They must be better shooting the long ball than they have been. Even though the Buffaloes shoot the ball well at 36.4%, but the three-point shot is not a big part of their arsenal, having only attempted 129 per game and knocking down 47, while Kansas allows their opponents to shoot just 31%.
The trio of Tyler Bey, McKinley Wright IV, and D’Shawn Schwartz have combined to shoot 22 for 50 on the year, but it’s Bey and Schwartz that lead the way at 45.5 and 51.9% respectively, Wright IV has not only attempted the least number of threes among them but has shot it at just 25%.
The problem for Colorado is their three-point season has been hit or miss. In their first three games, they shot a hot 48% while attempting 54 shots, but over their last four games, all wins they have shot just 30% going just 21-70 and Bey and Schwartz have shot 9-19.
If the Buffaloes want to come away with a road victory, they will not necessarily have to shoot more threes than normal, but they will have to knock down the shots that do take at a rate more like their first three games as opposed to their last four.
