Big East basketball is fresh off a relatively strong week and there were some shifts in the power rankings as a result. Where does each team stand?

Big East basketball is starting to find its groove. After suffering through some early-season struggles as a league, teams are beginning to show their true colors while winning competitive games and defending their home courts. With that said, Butler and DePaul remain easily the league’s most pleasant surprises while Providence has flat-out disappointed.

Additionally, tiers are definitely starting to form in the league as a list of contenders is coming into focus with the conference schedule drawing closer.

Several Big East teams were particularly impressive during this past week and the AP Top 25 poll recognized all of their efforts. The rankings released on Dec. 9th featured four teams from the conference with Butler, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Xavier holding down spots. It might not appear as though the Big East features any national title contenders right now, but those four teams all look the part of being some of the best in the country right now.

With regard to the NCAA Tournament, it appears as though the top eight teams in the Big East have all put themselves in decent position to compete for bids. It is hard to imagine that all of them will hear their name called on Selection Sunday but there should be at least six that do.

So, without any further ado, let’s dive into this week’s edition of the Big East Power Rankings to analyze where everyone belongs with the first month of the regular-season now complete.
