A top-10 game takes place in Ann Arbor, Michigan Saturday night when the Wolverines host Oregon. Here are some storylines to watch in this marquee game.
Unlike college football, in recent years college basketball has afforded its fans the opportunity to see post-season type matchups early in the season, thanks to early-season tournaments and more teams wanting, and in some cases needing to challenge themselves more if they want to be in the good graces of the selection committee come March. We get another of those chances on Saturday afternoon when No. 10 Oregon travels to Ann Arbor to battle No. 5 Michigan in a contest between two of the hottest teams in the country.
The home-standing Wolverines vaulted themselves into the national spotlight by virtue of a trip to the Bahamas where they proceeded to knock off two top-eight teams in the country, North Carolina and Gonzaga to win the Battle 4 Atlantis. Juwan Howard’s team found itself going from unranked to 4th in the country and a date with No. 1 Louisville on deck, a game they subsequently lost, but they enter this game at 8-2 and beginning Big Ten play with a win over Iowa, but falling to Illinois last time out.
The visiting Ducks sit at 7-2 and ironically their stumbling blocks came at the same Battle 4 Atlantis as Michigan, but Dana Altman’s team didn’t have the same luck, after beating No. 13 Seton Hall they then lost to those same North Carolina and Gonzaga teams. Oregon then rebounded with an impressive 25-point win over Hawaii, impressive because the game was tied at halftime before Oregon got rolling in the second half.
This could be a game we see with a trip to the Final Four on the line in March, but we get to see it in early December. Here are some fun storylines to keep in mind as we watch this one.
