1. The Big 12 is the best conference in College Basketball

According to the NET Rankings, the best conference in College Basketball is the Big 12. This is very surprising considering the fact that typically the ACC and B1G are considered the best conferences in basketball, but that is not the case.

Here is how the six major basketball conferences shake up based on the average NET Ranking of all of their teams:

  1. Big 12: 47.6
  2. Big 10: 50.86
  3. Big East: 55.5
  4. PAC-12: 66
  5. ACC: 77.13
  6. SEC: 80.21

To me at least, this is incredibly surprising. The Big 12 has three teams in the top-25 of the NET Ranking, the Big 10 has four, the Big East has two, the PAC-12 has three, the ACC two and the SEC has three.

As mentioned earlier, the numbers you see next to each conference above are the average ranking of each team from every conference. This is why even though the ACC has only two teams in the top 25, they are still above the SEC who has three.

If you were to go off of the AP Poll you might have some drastically different results because the AP Poll has only 25 ranked teams.

The question then becomes, will this stand? For instance, last season here is how many teams each of these six conferences had made the tournament:

  1. Big Ten: Eight
  2. ACC: Seven
  3. SEC: Seven
  4. Big 12: Six
  5. Big East: Four
  6. PAC-12: Three

It is quite remarkable that there can be such a drastic difference from last season to this season when it comes to the best conferences, but according to the NET Rankings, that is, in fact, the case.

Next. Top-25 power rankings. dark

You should expect there to be some major shakeup from these NET Rankings to the next one considering North Carolina will likely drop quite a bit, hurting the ACC, but nonetheless, these conference rankings are very, very surprising considering it is only December.
