NCAA Basketball: Wofford, Jordan Ford top mid-major performers
By Logan Butts
Best Performance, Individual – Jordan Ford, Saint Mary’s
Saint Mary’s star guard Jordan Ford had his highest-scoring output of the season so far on Saturday as the senior dropped 32 points to lead the Gaels in a win at Cal.
Now, winning at Cal is not as glamorous as winning at other Pac 12 squads’ home venues would be, considering this was their third loss to a mid-major so far this year and Saint Mary’s is a legit top-25 level team, but a win on the road against a Power-5 school is always hard to come by.
Ford has been great all season for the Gaels, with seven 20-point games and double-digits outings every time they have hit the hardwood. He leads the WCC with a 20.4 per game clip and has the Gaels thinking of at-large dreams. Now they have two Power-5 wins (Wisconsin being the other), a Top-25 win vs Utah State, a Top-25 loss to Dayton, and their one slip-up, a loss to Winthrop.
But, if they can out-duel BYU, San Francisco, and Santa Clara for the second-best team in the WCC spot, they should be able to get in. There is a long conference season ahead though before we can fully dive into that.
