After Wednesday’s embarrassing loss to Saint Mary’s, Arizona State Basketball has to turn around quickly against another tough opponent.

Their 40 point loss to the Gaels was Arizona State Basketball’s 3rd of the season and brought an end to the 5-game winning streak they were on. It also likely put a spot in the top 25 out of reach for them for the time being. Now they’ll go head-to-head with another team who entered the week fighting to be ranked but has done much more to help their cause during the week.

Creighton comes into this matchup with a strong claim to a spot in next week’s rankings. They have won each of their last 5 games, a stretch which includes impressive wins over Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Their only two losses this season came Michigan and San Diego State, who are both currently in the top 25. A win over Arizona State should guarantee that they see a number next to their name next week.

This showdown in Tempe holds a lot of importance for both teams. For ASU, Creighton would be their strongest win of the season so far and would help them strengthen their resume heading into conference play.

For Creighton, it would add to what is already a pretty strong resume and would help them keep their momentum heading into the new year, where they have a couple of tests early on. This matchup should produce an entertaining battle between two teams looking to make themselves stand out.
