A National Championship

The National Championship is on many teams Christmas list. For the Bulldogs, this has been something that they have wanted and been good enough to win for many years. With anything, this game is extremely hard to win and is a coveted commodity. If you have one you want another one and if you don’t have one you will do anything to get one. Every team and coach would love to be remembered forever in the annals of college basketball.

The Bulldogs played in the National Championship game two seasons ago. They lost to the game to North Carolina Tar Heels but making the game signified the first step in taking Gonzaga over the top from a great mid major program to an elite program. Gonzaga is a mid-major by conference only. They schedule, recruit and play like an elite power conference school. The only thing separating the Bulldogs from the true elites in the sport is their lack of a National Championship.

This season with each team having a flaw, Gonzaga is the team that currently has the fewest flaws. They are great in the backcourt with Ryan Woolridge, Joel Ayayi and Admon Gilder. The one weakness you could have pointed to was the lack of frontcourt depth with Gonzaga. Now that Killian Tillie is back, and freshman Drew Timme is figuring out. Forward Corey Kispert makes a ton of shots and Filip Petrusev is turning into a star.

The only weakness you can really point to is the conference schedule and that argument has holes all over it. Gonzaga is the most complete team in the country, and they look to be the team to beat heading into the new year for the National Championship.
