Filip Petrusev, C – Gonzaga, West Coast Conference

We’re beginning to reach the point where it feels odd that Gonzaga is actually a mid-major program. The No.1 team in the country has been a dominant force consistently for a while now and a big part of that has been Coach Mark Few and the guys he’s gotten to commit to his program.

This year’s version of the Bulldogs has a few guys who are of NBA caliber talent, but the best and most promising of that bunch is probably their big man, Petrusev. The beauty of the ‘Zags playing style is that their points can come from anywhere.

This season, through 14 games, Petrusev has been able to get consistent, comfortable shots and he has capitalized. The Serbia native is averaging 16.7 points on an efficient 53.8 percent from the field on the season.

Petrusev has made an impressive jump from his freshman season when he did not start a game last year. He’s filled in admirably in a starting role and is doing a good job of not only inserting his name into the draft conversation but helping it rise.

As Petrusev continues to develop, the biggest areas he will need to focus on will be adding strength to his frame, continuing to improve his jumper, and working to become a better defender.

The good news for Petrusev is that all of those areas should be relatively smooth for him to work on improving, and his current skill set is a good starting place for NBA teams to work with. As the ‘Zags continue to roll, the big man’s stock should continue rising.
