Butler Basketball: All-Decade Team for the Dawgs of the 2010s
Butler basketball was one of the most successful programs of the 2010s. As a result, the program’s All-Decade team features some superb talent.
Butler basketball really put itself on the map during this past decade. From the beginning of the 2010s until the end, the Dawgs redefined themselves from a lovable mid-major Cinderella to a power conference program capable of competing at the highest level every single season. Of course, that all started with back-to-back deep runs to the NCAA Tournament national championship game in 2010 and 2011 as a member of the Horizon League.
From there, though, the program simply continued its run of excellence in order to make the jump to the Atlantic 10 and then to the Big East. Even amidst a ton of coaching turnover, “The Butler Way” remained firmly ingrained in the program en route to several strong campaigns. To put it simply, Butler was one of the nation’s most successful programs of the past decade and that is not something many would have expected to hear 10+ years ago.
This incredible string of campaigns, though, would not have been possible without the efforts of bona fide stars taking the court in Indianapolis. From Gordon Hayward to Kamar Baldwin, the Dawgs featured some top-tier talent that all shined a spotlight on Hinkle Fieldhouse throughout this past decade.
With the 2010s now at their conclusion, though, let’s revisit some of Butler’s top performers by naming the All-Decade Team for the program. This roster will include a head coach, five starters, and eight reserves that all warrant attention for their contributions to the program.
(Please note: The decade started with the 2009-10 season and ended in 2018-19. No early-season contributions from 2019-20 were taken into account, hence why players such as Sean McDermott and Aaron Thompson were not included.)
