Big East Basketball play has begun and the rankings shift as a result. Butler and Seton Hall were the headlining performers as they secured true road wins.

Big East basketball season is officially here. After two exciting months of non-conference matchups, the intraleague schedule has arrived and each Big East team has already faced a conference foe. As a result, there were several shifts in my power rankings for this week. Seton Hall and Butler were perhaps the most notable performers of the past few days, though, as they both snagged road wins in their conference-openers.

Considering nine teams are expected to compete for NCAA Tournament bids while Providence plays spoiler this season, the Big East will be a hectic affair over the next few months. Every single game will be a challenge and securing wins away-from-home will be very tough to do.

That much was especially evident this week as Providence dismantled Georgetown in the conference’s most surprising early result and Creighton’s offense simply picked apart Marquette en route to a blowout win. Both the Friars and the Bluejays held home-court advantage in those contests.

On the whole, the Big East can make a legitimate argument to be called the best conference in the country. The Big Ten might have more national title contenders but the Big East features 10 teams capable of beating anyone in the country in any location on any night. That level of parity with nine of the 10 teams ranked in the Top 65 of the NET is ridiculous and it is impossible to predict the final standings as a result.

As always, my power rankings represent a snapshot of where each team appears to be standing at this point in time. So, with one week of conference play now complete, let’s dive into my Week 9 Big East Power Rankings.
