. Georgetown Hoyas. 9. player. 473. .

I’ve never completely bought into Georgetown this season and this week did not change my mind. Of course, playing without your star player (Mac McClung) is never easy, especially on the road, but the Hoyas laid a ridiculous egg against Providence in their Big East opener. Georgetown trailed by 31 points by halftime in that game and it was never able to make a big enough comeback to make it competitive.

In my opinion, Georgetown needed to start conference play hot because its lack of depth (only seven rotation pieces) might come back to haunt it later in the conference schedule. Starting with a 16-point road loss to the league’s worst team (at this moment) is far from ideal even if it did come without McClung.

It’s also important to mention that Georgetown is in danger of falling out of heavy NCAA Tournament consideration very quickly. The Hoyas will have to face both Seton Hall and Villanova on the road within their next three games sandwiched around facing St. John’s at home.

If they start 1-3 or 0-4, both very real possibilities, that would put the team behind the 8-Ball in a hurry. McClung needs to come back soon and the team definitely still needs to improve on the defensive end.
