With nearly 1000 NCAA Basketball players switching schools last offseason, which ones have had the biggest impact entering conference play?

Now more than ever, transfers are having a major impact overall in NCAA Basketball. They’re players who have already established themselves at the D-I level and unlike players straight out of high school, coaches know their skillsets and what they can offer to their new program.

There are hundreds of players who have switched teams from this past offseason, whether as grad transfers or getting a waiver from the NCAA. That process has been scrutinized a ton at the beginning of the season, with players such as Joey Hauser of Michigan State and others having to sit out whereas many other players were able to play. That has had a big impact on several teams so far this season.

As for those who were able to play, there are varying degrees of impact. Some have performed at a high level and set their respective teams up for success going forward, while others have been a disappointment. That can certainly change with conference play coming up but some coaches’ patience may already be running thin.

As for those who have given their coaches no reason to worry, here are the top 25 NCAA Basketball transfers who have had the biggest impact.

25. Dexter McClanahan (Nicholls State)

2019-20 stats: 15.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 2.2 apg

After three years are a big-time scorer at Savannah State (before leading D-I), the 6’4 shooting guard elected to go to the Southland for a Nicholls State squad who lost a ton of production from the season prior. He’s stepped right in and has led the Colonels in scoring, putting up 20+ points four times, including a 25-point effort in the season-opener against Illinois. McClanahan will be the reason why Nicholls State will be a threat to Stephen F. Austin in the conference.
