Conference play is here Big Ten basketball fans. Fifteenth-ranked Maryland basketball and the Indiana Hoosiers want to start the new year off right with a win.

After snapping a two-game losing streak with their 84-70 win over the Bryant Bulldogs, Maryland basketball wants to build on that momentum and get another home win.

In that game, the Terps got a solid performance from Chol Marial, outstanding team performance on the boards and experimenting with full-court pressure and zone worked to halt the Bulldogs offense. Anthony Cowan Jr., Aaron Wiggins, and Jalen Smith led the Terps in scoring and combined for 45 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists.

The Hoosiers, on the other hand, are coming into Big Ten play after a 71-65 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks who are 11-1 on the season. The Razorbacks were down 10 points, 52-42, with 15:19 remaining in the game. They made an effort to get the ball inside and convert their opportunities into points. Their success from behind the three-point line helped as well. They secured the lead with 2:04 left and held on to win. Arkansas’ Isaiah Joe, Mason Jones, and Desi Sills led the Razorbacks with a combined 55 points and 16 rebounds.

The Terps will have to contend with Indiana’s big four: Trayce Jackson-Davis, Devonte Green, Justin Smith and Al Durham who average double-figures in points. Indiana as a team can shoot the basketball well from behind the three-point line and they do a good job of getting the ball in the paint and executing.

Defensively, they need to pressure the basketball and making the Hoosier guards uncomfortable. On the offensive end, they need to prioritize tempo, smart shot selection, and fluid ball movement. The Terps can’t afford to have stagnant possessions and be careless with the basketball either if they are going to win this game.
