Oregon Basketball: 2019-20 takeaways from road win over Utah Utes

Oregon Basketball defeats the Utah Utes. What are the takeaways from the Ducks’ bounce-back win on the road?

Oregon Basketball(12-3, 1-1), currently ranked #4 in the AP Poll, defeated Utah (10-4, 1-1) 69-64 at the Huntsman Center Saturday.  The Ducks were ranked #15 in the NET rankings, while the Utes were #48.

Utah started the game shooting 0-7 from beyond the arc, allowing Oregon to take an early lead.  Oregon’s offense was not able to really take advantage and the Utes starting hitting their threes to pull within 36-31 at the half.  The Ducks were able to control the Pac-12 leading scorer, sophomore Timmy Allen (21.3 ppg), in the first half as the Oregon defense held Allen to 2 for 8 shooting and seven points.

Sophomore Both Gach heated up in the second half to lead the Utes in scoring (24) while setting a career-high in three-point field goals (4 for 12) to give the Utes with a chance to win the ballgame.  Allen finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6 for 18.

Oregon was led by reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, junior Chris Duarte, with 12 points and five rebounds in the first half.  He finished with just 14 points.  Senior Payton Pritchard picked up his game in the second half, 19 points and five assists. Sophomore guard Will Richardson added 14 points with 6 rebounds.

Oregon came into the game after losing their conference opener at Colorado (#22 NET), 74-65, on Thursday, Jan. 2. With this win, Oregon is still in a good position early Pac-12 play with the following takeaways noted.
