Wichita State Basketball earned its biggest win of the season on Thursday night over the Memphis Tigers in a ranked matchup.

In a game that wasn’t nearly as competitive as the final score showed, the 23rd ranked Wichita State Basketball was able to take down No. 21 Memphis at home. The Shockers got out to fast start in the game, taking a 3-0 lead just 10 seconds in that they would never relinquish. They pushed the lead as high as 19 in the second half before Memphis made a late comeback, getting the game back to within 6 before the Shockers shut the door on them, eventually winning 76-67.

For Memphis, the loss puts them on their first losing streak of the year. However, they probably won’t drop too far in the rankings thanks to every team behind them besides the Shockers also losing this week. Now they’ll look to right the ship when they head to Florida for a Sunday afternoon game against USF.

The win extends the Shocker streak to eight games since their only loss of the season. This puts them in a great position in the AAC as they took down the team who was seen as the favorite to win the conference. They’ll need to avoid a letdown on Sunday as they head to Connecticut to take on the UCONN Huskies. If they can do that, they should see themselves continue to climb the rankings.

This couldn’t have gone much better for the Shockers. They’ve already taken down their toughest opponent early in the conference schedule. Now, if they can just avoid an unforeseen stumble in the rest of their schedule, the Shockers could be in position for their highest NCAA tournament seed in years.
