2. Memphis Tigers (Prior Ranking: 1)

Memphis is 2-1 with their only defeat to Houston but South Florida gave them quite a scare on Sunday. It’s likely Memphis won’t feature in this week’s AP Poll but should receive some votes anyways. There’s a lot of talent on this team they haven’t quite clicked yet.

Memphis still sits at 13-3, with the inexperience they have you’d figure that they’d get better in big games. The game against South Florida stopped the bleeding as Memphis had lost the two before to Georgia and Wichita.

Precious doesn’t look like a freshman, he’s averaging over 15 points a game and has really embraced the situation with Wiseman gone. He looks like a lottery pick and a first-team AAC member.

D.J Jeffries has really struggled since coming back from his illness, they need him desperately. They missed him against Georgia and he didn’t look remotely the same against Wichita and South Florida. Definitely, something to keep an eye on.

The Tigers need to get themselves together because there’s a big midweek clash with Cincinnati that Memphis really needs to win that to get back on track. Losing three of four is less than ideal. Penny needs to have his guys ready to go. Tigers are still a contender and are in a position to get an at-large bid should they need it.
