8. Davidson Wildcats

2019-20 record: 7-9 (1-3)

There might not be a bigger team disappointment this season than the Davidson Wildcats, currently under .500 after having serious at-large NCAA Tournament aspirations. Kellan Grady (16.0 ppg) has been good but reigning A-10 Player of the Year Jon Axel Gudmundsson has struggled in the scoring category. His assist numbers are down as well, with little help outside of Grady to pass to.

The earlier season-ending injury to Luke Frampton hurts but the lack of frontcourt play has been a major problem. The hope was that A-10 play would get the Wildcats together again but they’ve lost on the road to both Duquesne and Rhode Island while needing overtime just to get past lowly Saint Joe’s. Yet despite the massive struggles for Davidson, they’re still more than capable of playing spoiler to an A-10 team who can’t afford a loss.

7. St. Bonaventure Bonnies

2019-20 record: 12-5 (4-0)

There’s a clear divide between the top half of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the bottom, with the Bonnies part of the top group. They’ve been highly impressive since the start of league play, winning all four matchups. The only thing is that all four wins came against the lower half, causing them not to go further up the A-10 ladder for now.

What should make St. Bonaventure fans extremely happy is that a trio of sophomores are leading the way. Kyle Lofton (15.0 ppg and 6.6 apg) could be the Conference Player of the Year before he graduates, while big man Osun Osunniyi is nearly averaging a double-double while being a defensive menace in the post. 6’5 guard Dominick Welch has also taken a leap in year two, averaging in double figures for the Bonnies as well. We’ll see how much the youngsters have really grown, with road contests against VCU and Dayton coming up.
