Penn State Basketball: 2019-20 keys to victory at home against Ohio State
Keep Seth Lundy as a starter
Penn State Basketball Head Coach Patrick Chambers shuffled the starting line-up against Minnesota. Coach Chambers sat 6 foot-4 inch sophomore guard Myles Dread, in favor of 6 foot-6 inch freshman forward Seth Lundy.
The point-production Seth Lundy accomplished in his first-ever start was just what the doctor ordered. In 26 minutes, the freshman connected on his first three 3-point attempts and went 5-11 from the field for 15 points, five boards and two assists. In comparison, Myles Dread’s last two starts resulted in 0 points.
Lundy’s insertion into the starting lineup was inevitable. The freshman’s season stats provided the impetus for Chambers to pull the trigger with a 41.4 percent average from 3 and 43.4 percent average from 2. Adding Lundy’s offense to a line-up that features Myreon Jones as the shooting guard may have also played a factor in the coaches’ decision. A new deep scoring threat that opposing coaches will have to account for will stretch defenses out past the elbow. Stretching the opposing defense can provide Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins room to attack the rim off of a drive and dish from Wheeler or Jones.
