2. Who are your current top 5 teams in the country?

Brown

Gonzaga, Baylor, Duke, Auburn, and Butler make sense to me. I wouldn’t rule out Florida State and Oregon making runs for the top five with the way they have been playing. San Diego State is impressive, but they play in a weak conference. We won’t really get to see what they’re truly made of until the NCAA Tournament where they play top-tier talent. They’re sort of like what Clemson was in football this year. They didn’t play anybody until the playoffs.

1. Baylor
2. Gonzaga
3. Kansas
4. Florida State
5. San Diego State

San Diego State sits unbeaten right now and sits in at five for me. Florida State continues to do just enough to win their ACC games and sit atop the standings with Louisville whom they already own a win against. They’ve really impressed me this season. Kansas probably can’t wait for their rematch with Baylor in February, all three of their losses have been to quality opponents. Gonzaga might not lose again until the tournament, they didn’t get off to the best start in conference play but have since been dominant. Baylor to me has the best resume in the country and is a deserved number one, I kind of thought they would jump Gonzaga last week when the poll came out but it’s not a big deal, both look like one seeds in March.

I have Baylor at No. 1 and Gonzaga No. 2, though you can make a convincing argument for either. I think those two have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the country with their play and their resumes, although I give the Bears the edge on both fronts. The aforementioned San Diego State comes in at No. 3 because of Malachi Flynn and their defense, followed by Kansas and then Seton Hall at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. And yes, I know Seton Hall may surprise some people, but they have been playing as well as anyone over the past month.

In order, I’d probably say 1. Baylor, 2. Gonzaga, 3. San Diego State, 4. Florida State, 5. Kansas. I think both Gonzaga and Kansas are both fake teams but unfortunately, they are here because they haven’t lost bad games yet. Kansas’ best win is West Virginia and they’ve lost all their big games with the exception of WVU, I’ve been high on Florida State all year and then I only have San Diego State in there because they’re undefeated but once they lose they’ll fall out of the top-15.

Hope

It may be more reasonable to ask who my current top 4 teams are right now. I have Gonzaga, Baylor, San Diego State and Kansas occupying the first four slots by a decent margin. Then the real fun begins. I am leaning Florida State at the five-spot, based on how consistent they have been over the past two months. However, Seton Hall and Louisville have both had recent resurrections that could pot them in that fifth spot as well. Really, it comes down to me having four teams competing for the top spot and three teams competing for fifth.
