9. UNC-Greensboro Spartans

2019-20 record: 15-5 (5-2 in SoCon)

The Spartans have recovered well from the two-game slide, winning the past three by a comfortable margin. Isaiah Miller averaged 20 ppg in the last three games and remains a frontrunner for SoCon Player of the Year this season. Up next are a crucial trio of road games, including a return trip to East Tennessee in a matchup that will have major implications on the regular-season race.

8. Richmond Spiders

2019-20 record: 15-4 (5-1 in Atlantic 10)

Despite leading scorer Blake Francis out with an injury, Richmond has continued on winning. They’ve won the last three without Richmond, including dominating La Salle this past week by 17 points. The Spiders still have plenty of offense leftover, including the trio of Nick Sherod, Grant Golden and Jacob Gilyard. But the other role players have stepped up and kept the team in a tie for second in the A-10. They’ll have a chance at being in first place if the Spiders can beat Dayton at home this weekend.

7. Saint Mary’s Gaels

2019-20 record: 17-4 (4-2 in WCC)

A home loss at Santa Clara is not good for an already shaky at-large resume, offsetting the big overtime win they had against BYU two days prior. They have taken care of business since, beating Pepperdine and San Francisco, despite leading scorer Jordan Ford not making a single field goal on the night (0/9). Instead, it was the defense of the Gaels who carried the team to victory. But the close nature of these games has to make head coach Randy Bennett nervous, although they still do have a pair of matchups on the schedule against No. 2 Gonzaga remaining.
