Butler basketball returned to its winning ways last week by taking down Marquette. How can the Dawgs keep that up on the road at Georgetown?
Butler basketball needed overtime but it was able to get back on the right track during its most recent game with a victory over Marquette at home. While that performance was not pretty throughout, it still wound up a victory after the Dawgs had dropped their previous three games. It appeared as though the team gained a bit of its mojo during that contest by coming away victorious despite having to play without Christian David (torn ACL – out for season) and Aaron Thompson (wrist – day-to-day).
Several players stepped up with big performances to make up for those losses and that is why the Dawgs were able to take the victory. Kamar Baldwin‘s heroics certainly took center stage but he wouldn’t have been in the position to pull that off without the efforts of Henry Baddley, Bryce Nze, and a number of others who put forth strong performances to keep Butler in the game. It was a complete team effort to thrive off the home crowd, overcome adversity, and move to 16-4 (4-3 BE) on the season.
Looking ahead, the 16th-ranked Bulldogs will now be tasked with heading to the nation’s capital to take on Georgetown. Even though the Hoyas are not nationally-ranked, there is no such thing as an “easy game” in Big East play and that is especially true with regard to playing on the road. Georgetown sits at just 12-8 (2-5 BE) on the season but is 2-1 in conference play at home and is still holding onto NCAA Tournament hopes.
This matchup marks a big game for both teams. Butler will be looking to reassert itself as a Big East contender while Georgetown is seeking a resume-building home win. Let’s take a deeper dive into previewing the contest from the Butler side with some opponent intel, keys to success, and a pregame edition of Hark’s Bark.
