Myles Powell began the season as one of the favorites to win National Player of the Year and, aside from the two games he missed with a concussion, he has proven he belongs right at the forefront of that conversation every time he has stepped on the court.

The senior has fueled Seton Hall’s 10-game win streak and was the reason it wasn’t snapped by DePaul on Wednesday.

Despite having an off shooting night (33 percent), he took over late, scoring 12 of Seton Hall’s final 18 points as they turned a four-point deficit into a seven-point win in a matter of minutes.

Powell has, almost without fail, come up clutch for the Pirates whenever they’ve needed him in similar situations. His ability to produce when it matters most while shaking off over 30 minutes of poor shooting is just the latest example of why the senior continues to lead the National Player of the Year race.

Powell also has the first chance to put some real separation between himself and the other three contenders next weekend when Seton Hall will travel to Philadelphia to take on Villanova in a top-10 showdown.

Yet, as it remains, these four players remain in a very tight race that can turn at any time with one monumental performance.
