Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Baylor holds strong, Texas moves up
7. Oklahoma Sooners
Record: 14-7, 4-4 Conference Play
The Oklahoma Sooners have done exactly what everyone expected them to do, and that is sit around the middle of the standings with little showing of greatness but little showing of disaster as well.
That’s right; the Sooners are the most average team in this conference, and a .500 record in January exemplified that.
Brady Manek looks like a star in Norman, dropping 30 points on Oklahoma State on Saturday, cementing the Sooners’ spot on the bubble.
But why do the Sooners still find themselves at number seven? They do not have a great win on their resume. They lost to both Kansas State and Iowa State, a pair of bad losses that will really show up come tournament time.
They’ll have the chance to make up for those losses, as their first five games of February feature games against West Virginia, Baylor, Kansas, and Texas Tech.
The Sooners have the star power to make it far, but the early indications are that unless they can pick up a big win, they’ll remain in the realm of mediocrity.
