The No.15 Maryland Terrapins will have another ranked opponent and tough test ahead of them in the No.25 Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Last season, the Terps won their only meeting against them 77-63 in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith combined for 26 points and 15 rebounds, Anthony Cowan Jr. and Eric Ayala combined for 26 points and Serell Smith Jr. had 11 points off the bench. Eugene Omoruyi and Montez Mathis were the only double-figure scorers for the Scarlet Knights in that game. Both teams scored a lot of points in the paint and rebounded the ball well. The Maryland Terrapins separated themselves because of their shot selection. They shot 43 percent from the field in the first half and 53 percent in the second half.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are a completely different team this season. In the Big Ten, they are ranked sixth in field goal percentage (45 percent), second in rebounds per game (40.9) and second in steals per game (7). They are led by Ron Harper Jr. (11.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG) and Akwasi Yeboah (9.9 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 38.7 percent shooter from the three-point line). Geo Baker and Myles Johnson are also solid scoring options.

Maryland beat Iowa because they asserted dominance in the paint and caused Iowa’s playmakers to get into foul trouble. These two things opened the game up for the Terps. Despite outrebounding Michigan 51-37 (26-6 offensive rebounds), the Scarlet Knights lost in Madison Square Garden.

Next. Biggest takeaways of the week. dark

The Maryland Terrapins win when they rebound the ball at a high rate, attack the basket and push the ball in transition. For the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to get an upset victory on the road, they have to set the pace of the game early and play solid defense.
