San Diego State Basketball: 5 reasons why Aztecs can win 2019-20 national title
San Diego State Basketball is the last unbeaten team in the country. Are they also the most likely to be the last team standing in April?
The 2019-20 NCAA Basketball season has been described in many ways, including “crazy”, “bizarre”, “wild”, and “anybody’s game”. Something else many have said is that there is a lack of great teams this year as well. For some fans, that’s hard to take. Especially those who support San Diego State Basketball.
The Aztecs are the only team unbeaten to this point at 23-0 (12-0), with many of those wins coming in dominating fashion. They got on the national radar early on, beating both Iowa and Creighton to win the Las Vegas Invitational. This team throttle Utah by nearly 30 points after they were coming off the Kentucky upset and has continued the great play into Mountain West action. Already with a pair of wins over the preseason frontrunner Utah State Aggies, the chances are real that the Aztecs at least enter the conference tournament without a loss.
It’s taken a while for this team to get their deserved respect, slowly rising the rankings to currently be No. 4 in the AP poll. Yet, they still aren’t viewed as a true national title contender. According to the latest odds from The Action Network a week ago, the Kansas Jayhawks have the best odds (7/1), with Duke and Gonzaga (10/1) right behind them. You have to scroll down to find San Diego State, tied for the 13th best odds at 30/1.
There may not be much to sway the non-believers from avoiding picking the Aztecs going deep but there is so much to like about this team. From the roster to the head coach and other aspects, San Diego State should definitely be viewed as a team that can win it all.
Here are five specific reasons why.
