LSU Basketball suffered their first loss of the SEC season on Wednesday night, but they have a chance bounce back in a big way when they meet Auburn on Saturday.

Thursday night’s loss was easily one of the most shocking upsets of the season. They entered their road matchup against Vanderbilt as the only undefeated team left in SEC play. On the other hand, Vanderbilt hadn’t won a game in their conference in nearly two full years. However, none of that mattered on Wednesday night as Vandy got hot from outside and LSU Basketball played abysmal defense inside the arc, bringing an end to Vandy’s 26-game conference losing streak and to LSU’s 10 game winning streak. Now LSU will follow that game with a much tougher road test.

That test is the 11th ranked Auburn Tigers. There were a lot of questions about just how good Auburn actually is this season after they were crushed in back to back games against Alabama and  Florida, but they certainly answered those questions last weekend with their win over Kentucky. They also added an impressive road win over Arkansas this week that extended their current winning streak to 5 games.

Saturday morning’s game has massive ramifications for the SEC. The matchup features two of the conference’s last 3 ranked teams squaring off. It also features the two top teams in the conference standings. For LSU, a win here might be necessary to keep them in the top-25 when the new rankings come out on Monday. For Auburn, a win would continue to silence their doubters and likely push them into the top 10 in the new rankings. No matter who wins, this battle between SEC contenders promises to deliver fireworks.
