With the Bracket Reveal in the past, there were several shifts in my bracketology projected field. Gonzaga and Dayton were among the recent winners.

This past weekend was perhaps the most tumultuous of the entire NCAA basketball season with regard to bracketology. Of course, the action on the court took center stage as teams fought for resume-boosting wins but that wasn’t the only source of excitement. The selection committee for the Big Dance also took the time to release their Top 16 with just over a month until Selection Sunday. This was highly anticipated considering the unpredictability of this season but the results were about as many bracketologists (myself included) predicted.

As a brief overview, here is how the committee’s early Bracket Reveal shook out on Feb. 8th:

No. 1 seeds: Baylor, Kansas, Gonzaga, San Diego State

No. 2 seeds: Duke, Dayton, Louisville, West Virginia

No. 3 seeds: Maryland, Florida State, Seton Hall, Villanova

No. 4 seeds: Auburn, Oregon, Butler, Michigan State.

Since there have already been three whole days of college hoops action since the reveal, there have already been a few shifts in this Top 16. Additionally, bracketologists were able to learn a bit about what the committee is emphasizing this season based on the reveal. So, as a result, my projected field for this midweek update has changed quite a bit.

Now, without any further ado, let’s dive right into this edition of my bracketology. The next update after this one will be posted on Friday, Feb. 14th.
