Vermont Basketball is an extremely strong mid-major team that seems to be putting it all together at the right time, making them a dangerous team to watch.

Prior to the season many, including myself saw Vermont Basketball as not only a favorite to win the America East but to do so handily and be a threat to do some damage in the NCAA Tournament.  With less than three weeks from the conference tournament, the Catamounts find themselves at the top of the conference with a 10-1 record and right now they look like the team many thought they would be over the summer.

John Becker’s team is led once again by a player of the year favorite in the conference, senior forward Anthony Lamb who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with 16.6 and 7.3 respectively and the 6’6 Lamb also dishes out 2.4 assists per game and leads the team with 1.3 blocks per game. In fact, the only member of the team’s top five scorers who is an underclassman is sophomore Ryan Davis who is 3rd on the team in scoring at 9.9 per game, but as they say, to win in March you need good guard play and that would fall upon the trio of Stef Smith, and the brothers Duncan, senior Everett and sophomore Robin.

Once the season started, the Catamounts didn’t get off to quite the start they were hoping for and their non-conference slate wasn’t as successful as they would’ve hoped but once conference play started, they began to reel off the victories. As Vermont enters the conference tournament, let’s take a look at their season and if the Catamounts can be the dangerous team some of us expected.
