NBA Draft 2020: Lottery shakeups highlight new mock draft

With their second pick in the first round – this one courtesy of the Nets – Minnesota can take a bit of a gamble on McDaniels. On paper, he should be a top-five pick. He has guard skills at 6-10 and is extremely athletic. But he’s also extremely skinny (200 pounds), has a questionable motor, and plays with inconsistent aggressiveness.
Boston’s only significant weakness right now is their center position, especially when it comes to depth. With the first of their three first-round picks – this one via Memphis – the Celtics look to fill that need with Carey, a bruising big who is an excellent rebounder. He does have more of a traditional post game, yet he also has three-point range and is more mobile that he gets credit for.
Milwaukee has the league’s best record, yet is currently set to pick in the top 20 thanks to the Malcolm Brogdon deal with the Indiana Pacers. As such, they don’t really have any needs, but there are some questions about their point guard position moving forward, particularly with Eric Bledsoe’s future and George Hill’s age. Mannion, while not a good defender, is a great passer and shooter and should be able to carve out a role in the NBA.
The Mavs have their No. 1 and No. 2 guards in Doncic and Porzingis. Nesmith would provide a prolific shooter (52.2 percent) who can defend his position well and make opposing teams pay if they don’t respect his overall offensive game.
Oklahoma City has made its name finding diamonds in the rough and developing them. Williams is a jack-of-all-trades with the strength and athleticism to play either forward position, and he has the shooting touch to be a reliable three-point shooter at the next level, too.
