Kentucky Wildcats (22-5, 12-2 SEC)

When the Selection Committee gave their early bracket reveal, the Kentucky Wildcats was a notable omission. It was understandable, having bad losses to Utah and Evansville on their resume. But in the two weeks since, it’s very likely that the Wildcats would crack the top-16 overall seeds now, currently on a six-game winning streak.

This week was huge for Kentucky, facing both LSU and Florida. The Tigers game was filled with a ton of three-pointers but the Wildcats prevailed in the end, 79-76. Then, the Wildcats were able to withhold a game Gators squad for a 65-59 victory. Another Quad 1 and 2 win helps boost the resume, while also giving the team a two-game lead in the SEC regular-season title race over LSU and Auburn.

The Wildcats are hitting their stride late in the season and if they can go at least 3-1 in the final four games will, they’ll have a case to make for a possible 3 seed in the South Region. Getting into that “protected” range is big for a huge fanbase that travels as good as anyone else while avoiding undesirable scenarios. Kentucky fans have been unhappy regarding their seeding lately but if they continue to win, it won’t matter come Selection Sunday.
