Butler basketball was able to secure a victory on Senior Night behind a stellar second half. What were the main takeaways for the Dawgs?

The Butler basketball team returned to Indianapolis a week and a half ago after a pair of difficult road losses to Seton Hall and Creighton. The first defeat came at the buzzer while the second game was essentially over at halftime in blowout fashion. This left the Dawgs as losers of three straight and five of their last six. With two home games coming up next against the lowest-rated opponents in the conference, Butler needed to find a way to get back on track with some victories.

That’s exactly what it did. After five full days of rest following the blowout loss to Creighton, the fresh-legged Dawgs went out and took down DePaul by 18 points. Then, on March 4th, they celebrated Senior Night with an electric second-half performance that led to a 22-point victory.

Not only was Butler able to secure back-to-back much-needed wins but it was able to do so very convincingly and with a return to form on the defensive end of the floor.

With regard to the latter victory, most specifically, it was an emotional evening for all involved. In addition to four seniors playing their final home games in front of the Hinkle Fieldhouse faithful, it was also the last night for Michael Kaltenmark and Butler Blue III.

Returning to the basketball court, though, let’s dive into my three biggest takeaways from Butler’s home victory over St. John’s.
