San Diego State basketball got a bye in the first round of the Mountain West tournament. but now they’re looking at a quarterfinal matchup against Air Force.

San Diego State Basketball has had a ton of success this season. Their 17-1 Mountain West record is the best the conference has ever seen. Their 28-1 overall record has the looking like a lock for the conference’s first-ever 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. They’ve been so good that there are even many (myself included) who consider them a prime candidate to make a deep run in March.

However, the only success they need to worry about right now is three wins in the Mountain West tournament to continue their dominance of the conference and claim their 6th tournament title ever, which would be two more than any other school in the conference.

Air Force hasn’t enjoyed anything even resembling SDSU’s success. The Falcons come into this game with a 12-19 and the 3rd worst conference record. Still, they did manage to find success on Wednesday in their unexpected 7-point win over Fresno State. That win allowed them to advance to the Mountain West Tournament quarterfinals, but they are going to need to pull off an even bigger stunner on Thursday to take out the Aztecs.

This 1 vs 9 clash in the Mountain West tournament takes place at the Thomas and Mack Center on Thursday afternoon and should give us an enjoyable first quarterfinal matchup of the tournament. Here are San Diego State’s keys to make sure they’re the team who enjoys it more.
