Seton Hall Basketball: 3 concerns Pirates have to address after Villanova loss
Sandro Mamukelashvili is underused
It is unusual to claim a player is being underutilized after scoring a game-high 20 points, and it happens to be eight points higher than his season average. But, that is the case when it comes to 6-11 forward Sandro Mamukelashvili.
Mamukelashvili made the most of his opportunities, going eight for 10 from the floor, including three for four from the arc. There were however long stretches were he would not touch the ball, let alone get a shot attempt.
This is to be expected playing along Myles Powell and in the second half, Mumkelashvili had added defensive and rebounding responsibility playing the center position with Gill sitting. As a versatile stretch 4-man, he has the size and shooting ability to be a difference-maker for Seton Hall.
Some detractors will point out the fact that he is unable to create his own shot, which is true, but it does not excuse the lack of touches. Gill bobbled the ball and missed a few lay-ups because Powell would at least look for him off the screen, Mamukelashvili was not afforded that opportunity.
If Kevin Willard wants to diversify his offense, he has the perfect candidate in Mamukelashveli to work through going forward.
