The 2020 SoCon Basketball Tournament should be one of the most competitive conference tournaments this season. Let’s take a look at which teams to watch for.

Once again, the 2020 SoCon Basketball Tournament should be one of the most anticipated conference tournaments across the college basketball landscape, mid-major or otherwise. Although the competition is not quite as cutthroat as last season’s tournament, which saw Wofford come out on top of a bloodbath that involved four top-100 teams in the NET rankings, this season’s version should still have some fireworks.

This year, the SoCon features three top-100 squads led by East Tennessee State, a top-40 team in the NET rankings and a squad that is 29th in the latest AP Poll. Furman and UNC Greensboro will provide top competition for the favorites again in 2020, and there are several capable spoilers waiting in the wings, including the defending champion Terriers.

The biggest storyline entering the tournament will obviously be if ETSU will win the title or if a bid stealer will prove triumphant, making the committee dive headfirst (again!) into the #TwoBidSoCon discussion. But even outside of that intriguing question, there will be plenty of action in Asheville, North Carolina this week. For my money, this is at the very least a top-three anticipated mid-major conference tournament. It would probably get my vote for first place.

As the SoCon Tournament begins on March 6, let’s take a further look at the trio of teams at the top, the teams that could knock them off, and which star players could make a run to an NCAA Tournament bid.
