Brian Dutcher has coached San Diego State Basketball to an overall record of 29-1 and won the Mountain West Conference regular season with a 17-1 record. The Aztecs have remained in the Associated Press Top 25 since December 9th, but making the Final Four will be more difficult.

San Diego State Basketball is looking to win the Mountain West Conference (MWC)  tournament in order to add that accolade to their regular-season championship. ” Making or breaking” will take this golden opportunity to explore San Diego State Basketball.

If this is your first time visiting “Making or breaking“, it is straight to the point guide to understanding how a team’s strengths will help them make their march, or how their weaknesses will break their march to Atlanta on April 4th.

Defining a contender: The term contender is a subjective term. In order to avoid any bias, The Associated Press college basketball poll and the NCAA Men’s NET Rankings will be used to decide if a team is a contender or not. With that disclaimer out-of-the-way, let us focus on the Aztecs

With the Associated Press ranking them No.5 and the Basketball NET Rankings placing them at No.4, if the Aztecs do indeed win the MWC tournament, their résumé will hold up against any other team that the selection committee might be considering for a 1 seed.

Being 10-0 in quadrant 1/quadrant 2 is impressive on any résumé and San Diego State must be commended for having the foresight to seek quality opponents, especially playing out of the MWC.  At the same time, not all 29 victories have come without difficulties. In order to march all the way to Atlanta, those difficulties must be ironed out, or it could very well break them.
