BID THIEVERY INDEX

UNC Can’t, Can It?

Can UNC do the unthinkable and win the ACC tournament as the field’s bottom seed? To do so would require five wins in five days, a truly monumental task. This team has faced a rash of injuries and a string of poor play throughout a tumultuous season, but it remains a team that could beat any other ACC team on a given night.

Fresh off a thrashing of Virginia Tech in its ACC tournament opener, the Tar Heels will battle Syracuse tonight with a chance to break into the ACC quarterfinals. Garrison Brooks and Brandon Robinson led the way for the Heels against an outgunned and out-toughed Virginia Tech team.

UNC won three in a row down the stretch before losing to Duke in Cameron, but the bounce-back and fight the Heels showed against Virginia Tech raised my eyebrows. Roy Williams is a proud coach in the midst of one of the worst seasons of his career, and he still has his team playing hard. There’s a reason we label this month with “Madness.” UNC winning the ACC and thieving a bid from an unsuspecting Bubble team would give new meaning to the term!

Even in a down year for the ACC, the conference tournament will have lots to offer for fans and Bracketology enthusiasts alike. Sure, the Bubble is sparse in the ACC, but seeding implications and the possibility of Bid Thievery should make the event must-watch.
