NCAA Basketball: 68 defining moments of the 2019-20 season
The 2019-20 NCAA basketball season ended a bit earlier than many were expecting. Looking back, here were 68 of the most defining moments of the campaign.
The 2019-20 NCAA basketball was nothing if not dramatic. Even before the opening tip of any games, there was plenty to talk about surrounding the sport. Most notably, Snoop Dogg’s performance at Kansas’ Late Night at the Phog took over headlines in early October only to be forgotten about amidst the craziness that actually ensued on the court. AP top-ranked teams dropped games left and right for the first month, mid-major darlings emerged, and the season was seriously evolving into one of the most entertaining in recent memory.
That is, of course, until the entire sporting world screeched to a halt in the final week before Selection Sunday. Due to the ever-expanding concern regarding the spread of the coronavirus, the 2019-20 college basketball ended right in the midst of conference tournaments and prior to the unveiling of the Big Dance bracket. While the decision was inevitable, that does not make it any harder to grasp for all involved.
As college basketball fans around the country mourn the loss of our favorite month of the year, let’s revisit what made this season so special through the first few months. While dwelling on the “what ifs” will always be the No. 1 reason we remember this campaign, it would be a shame for that to completely overshadow the hard work that every student-athlete and coach put into a spectacular season.
The dunks of Obi Toppin, the clutch shots of Kamar Baldwin, and the sweet dishes of Cassius Winston should not fade quickly. So, as an ode to the season that was never finished…let’s dive into 68 of the most defining moments from the past few months.
In order to truly encapsulate the feelings of fans since the opening tip of the campaign, this remembrance will be displayed in chronological order from the Champions Classic all the way through the coronavirus cancelations.
