MVP – Anthony Cowan Jr

This could easily be Jalen  Smith who averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and was a force all over the court. But instead its Cowan Jr. He was the lifeblood of this team. The lone senior that played meaningful minutes, Cowan, again and again, came up big for the Terrapins.

Cowan would struggle with his shot from the outside this year, but he still found a way to average 16.3 points a game. He also dished out 4.7 assists per game in helping the Terrapins win a share of their first Big Ten title. He was trouble for whoever guarded him and was great finishing at the rim. Smith may have been a force on the court but Cowan was their MVP.

Best Moment – Winning a share of the Big Ten title

The Terrapins had never won a Big Ten title since coming over to the conference in 2014. They looked well on their way to winning their first outright title but three losses in four games put them in jeopardy of not even winning a share of the title. All that stood in their way was a Michigan Wolverine team that had been playing better. They did get the game at home and on a day they celebrated Anthony Cowan Jr.

The Terrapins did not disappoint. They jumped out to an early double-digit lead and while Michigan made a run in the second half to cut the lead to three they never seemed to be in trouble. Cowan Jr. would score 20 points and Eric Ayala hit three big triples on his way to 19 points and Maryland was celebrating when the final buzzer sounded. It was a big moment for the Terrapins who finally showed they could win a title in the Big Ten
