Big Ten Basketball: Power rankings for end of 2019-20 season
By Adam Childs
MVP – Miller Kopp
Pat Spencer was a nice story for Northwestern and he had a good year, but nobody was more valuable to the Wildcats then Kopp. He took a huge leap this year averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting almost 40% from deep.
Kopp scored over 20 points in six games this year and was one of the few bright spots for the Wildcats this year. It might have been a rough year, but Kopp gave something for Northwestern fans to really look forward to in the next few years. If he can continue to improve like he did this year he could be a force in the Big Ten in the future.
Best Moment – Beating Penn State 80-69
Northwestern, like Nebraska, did not have many bright spots this year. One happened early as they played a great game against Bradley at the Fort Myers Tip-Off to make it to the championship game. The other was sweeping Nebraska to keep themselves out of the bottom of the Big Ten.
None of those compare to the WIldcats pulling off a huge upset over former top-ten Penn State in the final regular-season game of the year. The Wildcats played some of their best basketball early as they jumped out to a 16-2 lead only to give it all up as the two teams were tied at halftime. Northwestern proved to be the tougher team though as they would pull away late and get a huge win. Kopp proved to be the best player scoring 21 points on the game and help the Wildcats get a win in their final regular-season game.
