NCAA Basketball: Matchups we would’ve loved to see in 2020 NCAA Tournament
Kansas vs. Baylor
Both Kansas and Baylor had very solid seasons. In fact, there was a huge argument in favor of each as being the potential National Champion. So, a matchup between these two was actually more likely to occur in the NCAA Tournament than many of the other matchups on this list.
Chances are, NCAA basketball fans would have had the pleasure of seeing a game between these two in the Big 12 Tournament Championship, but considering how thrilling a third matchup would have been, a fourth a few weeks later in the big dance would have been spectacular.
In the first two meetings between Kansas and Baylor, each was able to grab a victory. The fact that both teams were able to pick up a win on the road completely contradicts the idea that home-court advantages are everything in NCAA basketball. They are very much a huge factor, but each squad having the ability to win against top teams on the road shows just how great these programs are.
In the first of the two meetings, the Baylor Bears won 67-55 behind a 22 point effort from Sophomore guard, Jared Butler. Both Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson were contained pretty handily that day. Baylor held them to only six and nine points, respectively. In the second meeting, in a game that went down to the wire, Azubuike was unstoppable. He scored 23 points on 11/13 shooting, while also contributing 19 rebounds. Dotson was on another level that day as well. He scored 13 to help give Kansas the 64-61 victory on the road.
After these two very different outcomes, a third and fourth game would probably be very unpredictable; however, I will say that I think that the second meeting was a good indicator of how future meetings this season would have gone. I do not think the Bears would have an answer for Azubuike in an NCAA Tournament game. Kansas would be victorious.
