List of possible guards Syracuse could pursue
Mike Smith Columbia
The 5-11 point guard is a graduate transfer who put together an impressive season last year with the Lions, compiling 22.8 points along with 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 3-pointers, and 1.5 steals. He closed the season in fine fashion by scoring at least 20 points in each of his last seven contests and scored in double-figures in all 30 games, including 22 outings of 20 or more points.
Smith didn’t thrive only against low-majors, the Burr Ridge (Ill.) native put up substantial numbers against Wake Forest along with Virginia and St. John’s — compiling 59 points along with 15 assists and 17 rebounds while making 22 of 45 shots (48.8%) from the field and 6 of 12 (50%) from beyond the arc in that trio of games.
Smith is a volume scorer who is inconsistent from the 3-point line, although he also does do an excellent job at getting to the foul line. He is also a good passer and rebounder for his size, though his ball-handling skills need some work. Smith is third on ESPN’s available transfers.
Brendon Barry, Dartmouth
Barry, who sat out this past season, is a pure point guard who is an excellent shooter. The 6-2 grad transfer produced 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.7 trifectas while connecting on 46.6% of his field-goal attempts, and 44.5% of his 3-point tries in 2018-19. Barry is No. 11 on ESPN’s transfer list.
Jake Killingsworth, Columbia
The 6-5 senior is pretty much a jump shooter who is a solid rebounder. 72.2% of his shots from this past campaign were from beyond the arc. Killingsworth averaged 7.4 points, 1.7 triples, and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 36.7% from the field as well as 32.9% from beyond the arc.
