NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Breaking down JT Thor’s final three
UCLA Bruins
UCLA struggled to begin this past season and many continued to question whether or not head coach Mick Cronin was the right man for the job. While everyone respected Coach Cronin’s success on the sidelines while with Cincinnati, there were some concerns about how his style would translate to the blueblood out west. Over the latter half of the 2019-20 campaign, though, the Bruins significantly picked up their level of play while making a push for an at-large bid.
Coach Cronin has also proven his worth on the recruiting trail as well. In fact, the Bruins already have their backcourt of the future locked up thanks to the commitments of Daishen Nix (No. 15) and Jaylen Clark (No. 104).
Nix, most notably, represents UCLA’s five-star lead guard for Thor to play alongside. Although each program in this final three can boast an elite playmaker, each individual committed guard will certainly make their pitch to Thor to join them. Nix and Thor grew up together in Alaska so that could be a selling point as this recruitment continues.
UCLA is one of the nation’s college basketball powerhouses but has certainly struggled in recent years. Coach Cronin seemed to have the Bruins trending in the right direction over the final month of the 2019-20 season and that could be a launching pad for the future. A commitment from Thor would really help push that potential for the Bruins as he would join some other great young pieces.
JT Thor is clearly one of the best recruits available in the 2020 class. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that these three programs are heavily involved in landing a potential commitment. Regardless of where Thor ends up playing, he will be tantalizing to watch considering his playing style and fit with whichever five-star point guard he decides to compete alongside.
There might also still be a scenario in which Thor takes the professional route rather than playing in college. That is worth monitoring.
