SEC Basketball: Final 2019-20 power rankings for end of the season
By Dakota Cox
SEC basketball had an abrupt end because of the coronavirus. How did the teams stack up against each other in our power rankings?
This was an absolutely insane year for every conference of college basketball. SEC basketball was no different. After seeing a team make it to the Final Four last year in a deep conference, most teams regressed. Alabama started off strong, but they collapsed late in the year. Tennessee went to a conference contender to a pretender. Georgia was supposed to surge into NCAA Tournament contention, but they failed to reach expectations.
There were still some constants, however. Auburn lost some stars and changed their playing style, but they were still near the top of the SEC. LSU was also competing well thanks to their recruiting class. Kentucky was a monster yet again, but it wasn’t because of their recruiting class. They actually had a veteran presence this season.
We’ll never get to see how these teams would have played in any postseason tournament. Coronavirus canceled both the NCAA and SEC Tournaments. This robs us of one last opportunity to see the teams against each other (and opponents across the nation) in action. However, we can still look at how they stack up against each other with the information we do have.
Let’s take a look at the SEC postseason power rankings, staring with the worst team in the conference.
