SEC Basketball: Final 2019-20 power rankings for end of the season
By Dakota Cox
2. Auburn Tigers
Auburn’s run last season was program-altering for sure. There was no doubt that the Tigers would never be the same after making it to the Final Four, and they came into the season with a lot of hype. However, there were question marks with the majority of their production from last year leaving for the NBA.
The Final Four run still helped last year’s role players who became this year’s stars. That experience helped Auburn get used to playing in tight games, winning most of their matchups in hostile environments with slim margins.
Another addition to this year’s squad was Isaac Okoro, one of the top players in college basketball this year. He had his ups and downs, but he kept Auburn near the front of SEC basketball all season. He helped them a ton on their winning streak to start the season.
The only thing that hurt Auburn this year were their bad streaks during the season. They only lost six games, but they were always back-to-back.
Bruce Pearl will always be a quality coach, but there are some questions for next season. Five of their top six scorers were seniors this year, and the other was Okoro. There is a great chance that they will all be gone next season. With all of them gone, what will the Tigers look like next year? I’m not sure just yet.
