SEC Basketball: Final 2019-20 power rankings for end of the season

12. Georgia Bulldogs
This was an incredibly disappointing season for Tom Crean and the Bulldogs. College basketball is a sport where you don’t need a ton in terms of talent to be successful. In all honesty, it sometimes only takes one superstar player to make it to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia had that star, but they weren’t able to capitalize on it.
Anthony Edwards could easily be the first player drafted in this year’s NBA Draft, but he wasn’t able to bring Georgia wins. This doesn’t speak to him specifically. There have been plenty of superstars that haven’t won a lot in college but still got drafted highly. In recent memory, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz come to mind. It speaks more to the failures of the Bulldogs.
It will also hurt future recruiting. Succeeding with Edwards would have been a great opportunity to show future superstars in the state of Georgia that you can achieve all of your dreams at UGA. It reminds me of how Alabama landed Kira Lewis right after Collin Sexton played for the Tide. However, there is now another reason for future recruits to question going to Georgia.
I’m not sure how long the Bulldogs will give Crean to get his own players in the system, but you can’t believe that he can survive multiple years of this type of failure again. We’ll see what the Bulldogs do.
