NCAA Basketball: 2020 4-plus star Joshua Primo to make college choice soon
Joshua Primo recently announced that he would make his NCAA Basketball choice on March 27.
2020 NCAA Basketball four-star shooting guard Joshua Primo recently reclassified and will make his college decision on March 27, per Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers. Primo is reportedly choosing between Creighton and Alabama.
Primo, who is rated a top-three prospect in Canada, “stole the show” at the Basketball Without Borders.
“With a 6-foot-5 frame and long arms,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote. “Primo looked comfortable operating on and off the ball at the camp. Primo is extremely smooth and fluid while changing speeds, splitting ball screens, and finishing with touch and creativity around the rim using either hand. He did a great job of getting teammates involved out of pick-and-roll, showing the ability to deliver accurate passes after drives or off a live dribble. He’s a good shooter with his feet set, but particularly off the dribble.”
Primo officially reclassified from the class of 2021 to 2020 in February, according to Evan Daniels of 247Sports. Daniels said that the 6-6 combo guard holds nine offers and was seriously considering Oregon and Ohio State in addition to Creighton and Alabama. However, he only took official visits to Creighton and Alabama.
The 17-year-old transferred started his senior season at Phoenix (Ariz.) Compass Prep before finishing the campaign back home at Toronto’s (ONT.) Royal Crown. He also played for the Canadian U19 National Team this summer, where he averaged 4.2 points on 33.3% shooting from the field and 37.5% (6-for-16) from beyond the arc over 11.1 minutes a game in six appearances. Overall, Primo is rated as a five -star prospect and No. 27th best prospect by 247Sports in 2020. Meanwhile, 247Sports Composite (No. 47), Rivals, and ESPN all have as a four-star recruit.
So, where will he end up? Both Creighton and Alabama could use some help in the backcourt. Alabama lost James “Beetle” Bolden to graduation. Then on Tuesday, John Petty and Kira Lewis Jr. announced that they were entering the NBA draft, thus leaving the Tide with just four guards on scholarship for next year. The Crimson Tide have only signed four-star Keon Ambrose from the class of 2020 class and currently have one scholarship left to give next year. But they could have at least more two scholarship spots open up if Lewis and Petty depart.
Creighton is loaded in the backcourt with Davion Mintz (injury) and Antwann Jones (transfer) expected to be available after redshirting this past season. But the Bluejays do need help on the wings, although junior Damien Jefferson and sophomore Christian Bishop did an excellent job splitting time at the 3 in 2019-20.
Prediction: All signs point to Primo heading to Alabama, and the Crimson Tide’s roster appears to be going through a transition period.
